Ceramic
Capacitor Value Calculation:
There is different kind of capacitors, like electrolytic
capacitor, ceramic capacitor, Box type capacitor n etc. In electrolytic
capacitor the value of capacitance is given on the capacitor i.e, 10µF/63V and
more. But in ceramic capacitor type the only thing is number is written on
that. Like 102, 103, 104, 151, 475 etc etc.. so in this type of capacitor
generally students struggle a bit to find out the capacitance value. Or have to
look up table to find out what is the value of capacitance of this number.
So today I am going to explain you, that how to find the value of
those kinds of capacitor. And this is my promise that from next time when you’ll
see that kind of capacitor, some number written on that, then within a second
you’ll be able to tell what’s the value of capacitance and more.
In the ceramic type of capacitor the standard value of capacitance
of the capacitors are in pico farad (pF).
So now I am going to explain it .
So see if the value written on capacitor is 102.
Then in this three digit number.
1st
digit represents the 1st value of capacitance.
2nd
digit represents the 2nd value
And 3rd
digit represents the Multiplier and the unit will be picofarads (pF).
In 102 :
First digit value is 1 so the capacitance value is also 1.
2nd digit vale is 0, so the second capacitance value is
also 0.
And third digit is 3 so it multiplier or say 10 Multiplier.so
here multiplier is 2 so 102 is 100.
Or we can write it as:
10 X 102 = 10X100=1000pF.
1pF=10-12.
And 1µF=
10-6.
So you’ll have to convert the pF into µF by ur engineering
converting knowledge J or use
your calculator.
1000 X (10-12) = 1X(103) X (10-12)
= 1X(10-9)
We can write it as 1 x (10-3) X (10-6) {As we know 10-6 is µ}
So above can be written as 1x(10-3)µF or while eliminating
minus power, 1 will become 0.001. So the final conversion from pF to µF will
become .001µF.
So 102=.001µF
In the similar manner u can calculate all values.
The only thing you need after the conversion is in which value you
are converting it, whether it is in µf or nF, or will remain in pF.
For 122
12x102 = 12x100= 1200 pF
Or 12x102x10-12 = 12x10-10= 1.2nF
= .0012µF
